I love the wording in their statement. Essentially, "this might never happen again. Kinda. Sorta. We hope."

Did nobody in the Government ever watch Battlestar Galactica. The original one not the new one. The humans laid down their arms because the cylons promised peace. While they were waiting for the Cylon envoy to arrive Earth was destroyed. We are still dismantling our Nuclear Weapons and Russia is supposed to be doing it too. Guess What they haven't dismantled anything but we keep hoping they might. I worked at an unnamed facility dismanteling weapons. We stacked the empty missiles outdoors. Why you may ask? So the Russian spy satelites could count how many we had made harmless. Trust was Earth's undoing in the story and trust will be our undoing now.
