Sometimes You Just Need a Good Laugh. (I Know I Do.)
I found this clip when I was looking at Alexandra Billings' blog today...it was one of the clips that scrolled across the bottom of the one I was watching (also from Carol Burnett). I love it when Vicki Lawrence, dressed as Mama, breaks the other actors up:

I enjoyed Mama's Family for many years. I remember once when Eunice was wailing about not marrying the man she really loved. Ed was sitting at the table eating minding his own business when Eunice (Carol) said, "Mama, you know I loved that man, I could have been somebody, instead I married this Fool." The look on Ed's face: Priceless! ED
My favorite was her rant during Vint/Naomi's wedding:
"Remember the time you promised me, when I was 10 years old, a two-wheeler? Well, I have yet to see that sucker! But Ellen! Every time I turned around, there was a brand-new Schwinn sittin' under her fat fanny!"
So whatever happened to "Fluffy" the cute little bunny Eunice used to have? "Well, that wasn't chicken we had for Sunday dinner, Eunice!" Ed
"Ooooh, forgive me, Fluffy!!!!"
This clip NEVER gets old. No matter how many times I watch it. Vicki Lawrence was and is amazing!
She really is. She'll always be known for "Mama," but that's what she gets for being so damned good at it!
I was at my dad's the other night, and "Mama's Family" was on WeTV or something, and we laughed at it again. After 24 years. The same exact episode (the one where Mama got knocked over the head with a pot in the kitchen and the family are all at the hospital, telling their wildly different versions of how it happened). It's STILL funny. The fact that Carol Burnett and Betty White were in it made it exponentially funnier.
Sorry to pry, but why are you needing a good laugh right now?
I can laugh so hard at them now, but I remember the days (way back when) on the Carol Burnett show when I had to ask my parents or whoever else was laughing, "Why is that funny?" :-)
