A New Reason to Hate "American Idol"

As if I needed another one...

So Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings loves "American Idol." Who's that, you ask? Oh, you know, the bitch who slammed the "Postcards From Buster" cartoon series because she said it glorifies lesbianism? (Newsflash: It's a CARTOON, lady!) Yeah, her.

During an interview for the May 3 issue of Education Week (which we get at work), she apparently admitted that she loves "Idol." (Because that's SO pertinent to education in this country while Children Are Being Left Behind.)

Why am I not surprised?

Apparently, Trent Lott of Missippi (you know, the one who expressed sympathy with Strom Thurmond's segregationist leanings? Yeah, him) also loves "Idol." He and Spellings joke about it on the phone. In the interview Spellings says, "I told his staff to give him the following message from the secretary: if he's not for Katharine MacPhee, I don't want to talk to him."

Isn't that folksy and cute? What a connection I suddenly feel with both of them now! Gosh darn those Congressmen and Bush cabinet members--they're just regular folks like you and me! Except they live in Washington. And don't make any personal sacrifices, instead preferring to relegate those to the rest of the nation.

On the plus side, maybe their admiration of Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest will do more to advance the cause of gay rights than anything that's been done so far.

Why It's Hard to Tell a Phelps Parent From a Phelps Sibling

I realize what a conservative and God-fearing place Kansas is, so it's a little disappointing that they couldn't do a little more to discourage under-age sex:

My question is: Can you ground your daughter on her wedding day?

An Unveiling

I've been a bad, bad blogger lately...but I had a really good reason, I promise! My new band has been preparing for our long-awaited public debut. Our "coming out party," if you will...you won't want to miss it! Here are the details:

When: Friday, May 19, 10:00 PM
Where: Lilly's Pub, 2513 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago
Cover: $6 at the door

It's about an hour show (that's what they asked for). We're the only band, so you won't have to stay out too late...but it's a very casual, laid-back bar, so you can just hang out with your buds (and bring lots of 'em!) if you happen to get bored (but don't dare tell us to our face! :-))
